Description
If you are dreaming of building a mini camper, but are daunted by the complexity and expense of a Teardrop camper, our mini camper design may be another option. We wanted a mini camper that was light enough to pull behind our 4 cylinder SUV, with its 1500 lb maximum towing capacity. We also were not too keen on a 4' wide bed on the floor, that was accessed by crawling through a little Hobbit door. Nor did we find the 4' ceiling height appealing. The $20,000 price tag was also a non-starter.
So, I got busy designing our version of a dream camper. Ours is 5 feet wide, 5 feet high, and has front and rear projections, which allow a full-sized bed, with ample under-bed storage, to be located aft of a 30" wide door, which opened into 3'x5' of floor space.
It had been my hope to sell this first prototype, and use the funds to purchase materials for a revised camper, which would be the basis for a DIY book on how to build it. Since that may or may not ever happen, I wrote this 40 page manual to give you, the aspiring mini camper builder, as much information as I can about how I built our mini camper.
