We have designed a few different baskets for harvesting our produce over the years. One was made from ash, with a bent ash handle. It was beautiful, but also alot of work, and not as sturdy, or as large, as our current design.
This Harvest Basket design has been tested over several growing seasons, and we love it. It holds 40+ pounds of potatoes, is comfortable to carry, allows for rinsing the produce right in the basket, and it meets the requirements for a Backwood Basics product: it's sturdy, attractive, simple, and inexpensive.
With just simple tools, basic skills, and commonly available materials, you can build a large capacity Harvest Basket (or 2) that will have you wondering how you ever got along without it.
Our downloadable PDF should give you all the information you need to make it. If you are scratching your head about some part of it, give us a shout, and we will try to help.
