Spring in the Hoop House

turtle iconWe have bush cucumbers, eggplant, tomatoes (of course), peppers, and a bit of dill planted in the self-watering planters. The rain barrels are being topped-off with regular rains, and are providing all of the water to our plants. Half of the potting mix is our own compost, from the automatic composters, and the plants, so far, are doing well with no added fertilizer.

Raised Beds Rewards

turtle iconWe could not be more pleased with our raised bed design, which uses corrugated metal and regular 2x4 lumber, that is coated with solid stain for protection. Since there is no wood in contact with the ground, they are holding up well, and cost very little to construct. The potatoes, growing in chopped leaves, are an experiment that is, so far, very successful. They were perhaps planted a bit too close, but we'll keep you posted....
